Joy Maxwell
(Registered Midwife)

My journey into the midwifery profession started early in life. As a child, I developed admiration for our community midwife who took care of my mom during her pregnancies and postpartum periods. This gave birth to my pursuit of Midwifery as a career.

I graduated from the College of Midwifery, Bowen University Teaching Hospital in Nigeria. I obtained my bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) at the University of Nigeria over 20 years ago. Since graduating, I worked in Africa as a midwife in both community and tertiary health institutions. I have been fortunate enough to care for many pregnant women and their families in both rural and urban settings for over 20 years.

When I moved to Canada, I had to complete a midwifery bridging program at the Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario. Following my graduation from this school, I worked as a Midwife in Saskatchewan, I pioneered a midwifery practice in partnership with two others in Grande Prairie, worked as a Locum Midwife in Nunavut, and now I have moved to Lethbridge to pioneer the Chinook Midwifery practice.

I am married with five adorable children. I am so thankful to God, the source of life, for this great opportunity to witness the miracle of births and to see the beginning of many beautiful families. It is an exciting opportunity for me to be able to serve women and their families in Lethbridge and it’s surrounding areas.

Angela Umoh
(Registered Midwife)

Meet Angela Umoh, a humble woman, born and raised in Nigeria, West Africa. Angela was drawn into midwifery when she helped her Aunt navigate through labor and the miracle of childbirth.

Angela worked in Nigeria as a registered midwife for twelve years in both rural and urban areas. Angela enjoys being there for moms as they journey through their pregnancies.

Angela worked in the Bahamas as a midwife for four and half years before moving to Canada. To continue with her passion, Angela had to enroll in the midwifery bridging program at Ryerson University. Since then, Angela has had the honour to work as a midwife in Ontario, Manitoba, Nunavut, and Fort McMurray. In 2022, Angela joined Chinook Midwives and is excited to work with women in Lethbridge and surrounding areas.

During her leisure time, she likes to play games, travel and spend quality time with her family. She especially likes to spend time with her kids as much as possible. She enjoys learning new things on a daily basis and is thrilled to experience living among you and learning from you.

Fortuna Osivwemu
(Registered Midwife)

I graduated as a Registered Midwife in 1991 and as a Registered Nurse in 1997. Then in 2000, I migrated to the Republic of Ireland and worked as a registered midwife caring for low and high-risk clients. To further my midwifery education, I attended the University of Dublin (TCD) and graduated with a degree in Midwifery Studies in 2007.

After coming to Canada in 2014, my journey continued with completing the International Midwifery Preregistration Program at Ryerson University in Ontario. After graduating, I briefly worked for Prairie Mountain Health in Manitoba. Then from November 2014 to February 2023, I worked at the Brandon Midwifery Services.

It is exciting for me to be part of the Chinook Midwives team, and to serve clients in Lethbridge and surrounding areas.

Ula
(Office Administrator)

I have lived in Alberta my whole life, and have worked in the printing industry for over 20 years. However, I needed a change, so I moved on to working in some administrative roles. In 2013, I moved to Lethbridge, and found that the people in this city and the surrounding areas are amazing. I have met many wonderful people, and look forward to meeting many more.

I met Joy Maxwell in 2022 when she started up Chinook Midwives in Lethbridge, and since then I have been hired as her office administrator. I love working with midwives and their clients, and look forward to seeing many new and growing families.
