What Midwifery Care Looks Like
Midwifery care is fully funded by Alberta Health Services
From approximately 6 weeks of pregnancy to 6 weeks postpartum, your midwives are available to you in clinic, by email, and by pager.
Midwives care for low-risk pregnant people who are looking for a supported, low intervention labour and birth.
Routine clinic visits are anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes in length. This time allows for physical assessment, questions, and discussion. It allows you to get to know your midwives and for your midwives to get to know you and your family.
Your midwife will attend your labour and birth in either your home, birth center, or hospital.
In the first week after the birth, your midwife will do 2-3 home visits to assist with feeding your baby, monitoring the health of you and your baby, and to answer any questions that you may have.
At 2 weeks, you and your baby are seen in clinic to make sure feeding is going well and to ensure that your baby is gaining weight.
At 6 weeks, you will have your final visit with your midwife where a full examination will be done of both you and your baby.
